VEHICLES LICENSED IN GREAT BRITAIN 2004

The Department for Transport today published National Statistics of the stock of licensed vehicles in Great Britain in 2004.

The number of motor vehicles licensed at the end of 2004 was 3.4% higher than at the end of 2003.

Key results for the change in the stock of licensed vehicles between end of 2003 and 2004 include:

* Cars rose by 3 per cent;
* Company cars were up by nearly 4 per cent, reversing four years of decline;
* Light goods vehicles rose by 6 per cent;
* Motor cycles, scooters and mopeds rose by 5 per cent.
