30 March 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
JESPER B Jensen has agreed a temporary deal with Oxford as a replacement for the injured Billy Hamill.
The Wolverhampton asset has agreed to deputise for Hamill, starting this Thursday against Belle Vue at Cowley. Oxford boss Nigel Wagstaff said: ''Jesper has joined us, but if he gets offered a contract for the year by another club, I am happy for him to go and talk to them.'' ISLE of Wight co-promoter Martin Newnham is backing his side for a place in the Premier Trophy semi-finals. Newnham believes the Islanders have what it takes to challenge for silverware in all competitions. He said: ''''Whilst winning the Premier League is our priority this season we are determined to reach the later stages of the Premier Trophy by finishing in the top two of our section.'' SCUNTHORPE co-promoter Rob Godfery has labelled the club''s opening meeting a ''massive success''. Danny Norton romped to victory as the sport returned to the Lincolnshire town after a 20-year absence. Godfery said: ''The crowd was terrific and the racing was excellent. We are all delighted with the way it went, despite a few teething problems. The return of the sport has captured the imagination of the community.''
