NOW, THE ULTIMATE RIDING SUIT FOR WOMEN?
07 July 2004 - BMW Motorrad GB
One of the many problems women riders face is the less than ideal selection of top quality riding garments specifically designed for them.
Although the situation is improving, many female motorcyclists claim that much of what is marketed is not particularly fashionable. “Designer labels” – with one notable exception – are not exactly abundant in motorcycle fashion. The exception, of course, is BMW’s Rider Equipment range that has always contained dedicated garments for fashion conscious women. Now, BMW has added to the choice with what is probably the best yet. The Belice suit is a new riding combo that has been specifically created for women riders... by other women riders. The trousers of the Belice are blue and graphite but there are two different coloured versions of the suit’s slender-cut jacket. A graphite and navy version is aimed at riders or passengers that prefer an elegant and conservative look, while the colourful yellow, blue and grey garment is for more sporting and individual riders. The fashionable design of the Belice suit is not the only aspect that will appeal to demanding female motorcyclists. The trouser/jacket combo is a serious riding suit that contains all the other attributes that make BMW’s Rider Equipment range one of the most comprehensive and safest available. For example, the suit incorporates CE-certified protectors at the back, shoulders, elbows and knees (two-way adjustable). The straight cut trousers (similar to jeans), which can be zipped to the jacket for more comfortable and safer riding, also feature a removable lining. The waistline is adjustable to two positions by the use of a textile belt fitted with a fashion-buckle. Kevlar stretch-sections above the knees and seat allow optimal freedom of movement while a double layering of the material adds additional abrasion protection. The outer material of the jacket, like the trousers, is made from 100 per cent high-strength polyamide with soft fleece inner collar and leatherette trim. The standard wind and waterproof lining can be removed when in hot climates while, at the other extreme, the Belice also includes a warm fleece jacket that can be detached and worn separately when not riding. The suit also has the usually high visibility inserts and a number of integrated pockets for such items as a mobile phone etc. There are many other interesting small features too numerous to list here. For the insatiably curious, the obvious answer is to visit the nearest BMW Motorrad dealership and try the Belice suit for size and comfort. Sizes available are 34-46 and 17-23. The RRP is £355 for the jacket and £250 for the trousers. Customers can call BMW‘s information line: 0800 777 155
