MCGUINNESS SCORES POINTS AT BRANDS HATCH
29 March 2005 - Aim Racing

McGuinness had a mixed Bank Holiday weekend at Brands Hatch with a no points finish in race 1 and scoring 2 points in race 2.

After a poor start in race 1; McGuinness failed to find form he had shown in the morning warm up and as a result he struggled throughout the entire race. A number of changes were made for the second race including some modification to the front end of the bike.

These changes improved the handling and with a cleaner start in race 2, McGuinness finished the race with his first championship points of the 2005 season.

“I was very disappointed with race 1, I don’t know what happened, I had a bad start and things did not get any better. I was trying too hard to catch the riders in front. I was over riding the bike, which meant I was not in a smooth rhythm.

We made a number of changes to the bike after the first race which helped. My start in race 2 was much better, but being that far back on the grid meant I had to ride the wheels off the Yamaha to get near the front. I am pleased to have finished both races, we are still developing the bike and I know we have a few more changes to make before Thruxton.”

Jim Moodie added “After the first race I had a chat with John about his start and how the bike was handling. I am pleased to say that he did not make the same mistakes in race 2. If you look at his lap times he was running the same times as the front runners, but as far back as he was on the grid he was unable to close the gap. I am pleased with today, as we have both riders in one piece and a lot of data to analyse.”
