FIRST WIN FOR BERIK RIDER MAKOTA TAMADA IN THE PREMIER MOTOGP CLASS
06 July 2004 - Arlen Nesswear UK Ltd

MotoGP World Championship – 4th July 2004BRAZIL – Rio Grand Prix Last year Makoto Tamada showed what he was capable of when he took his first podium in the premier MotoGP class at the Rio Grand Prix.

Less than one year later, the Arlen Ness clad Tamada proved his ability yet again at the same circuit by taking his first MotoGP victory.

In a dramatic race at the Rio Grand Prix, which saw joint championship leaders Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau both crash out, Tamada maintained the hot pace with the race leaders on the fast and bumpy Nelson Piquet Circuit. He waited until the final few laps before making his charge on race leader Max Biaggi. After passing his team-mate, Biaggi, Tamada pulled away leaving no opportunity to for any second chances.

Makoto Tamada – Camel Honda (Bridgestone tyres)

“A perfect race, with the bike settings and the tyres as good as they could possibly be. The team did a magnificent job and I did the rest. I’d like to dedicate my victory to all of them and to my dear friend Daijiro. I think that’s the greatest homage I could pay to him. I miss him. I’m grateful to Bridgestone for the incredible work they did to make sure I could be fast and effective in all the tests this week, right through to the race itself when the tyres on my Honda gave me all the performance and endurance I needed.”
