BMW MOTORRAD POWERCUP TO BE LAUNCHED IN LE MANS

A race bike based on the new K1200 R (available at BMW Motorrad dealerships from 4 June) will show its racing skills in the new BMW Motorrad branded cup.
A power output of 175 bhp and acceleration from zero to 62 mph in 3 seconds will provide close, exciting racing throughout 2005. The K1200 R race version is characterised by altered engine settings, specially adapted racing suspension and diverse CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastics) body components. The engine spoiler, lamp mask, hand protectors, intake panels and rear trim (including pillion seat cover) are made from the extremely light and high-grade material. The throaty-sounding LASER racing exhaust system serves to boost performance and provide an appropriate racing tone. The bike also features a semi-automatic gearbox and an adjustable footrest layout. The K1200 R race bike is equipped with Metzeler Racetec tyres and comes with a lap-timer and a gearshift indicator. The BMW Motorrad PowerCup is a new racing series in which private teams and VIP riders take part. Riders such as the Swiss Andy Hofmann and other participants of last year''s BoxerCup like Stéphane Mertens from Belgium, Thomas Hinterreiter from Austria and Roberto Panichi from Italy will also compete. The winner of the cup can look forward to being presented with a BMW 630i Coupé and the runner-up will drive away with an X3 2.0d. Third prize will be a new generation BMW motorcycle. The PowerCup will take place at seven European racetracks in support of MotoGP. These are: 15 May Le Mans, F, MotoGP of France 4 June Mugello, I, MotoGP of Italy 25 June Assen, NL, Dutch TT, MotoGP of the Netherlands 24 July Donington Park, GB, MotoGP of Great Britain 30 July Sachsenring, D, MotoGP of Germany 28 August Brno, CZ, MotoGP Czech Republic 6 November Valencia, E, MotoGP of Spain For the 2005 race season The BMW Group will once again support MotoGP by supplying safety cars.
