SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 7.3.05
07 March 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
COVENTRY have slammed Oxford’s claims that Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill are confirmed starters this season.
The Bees insist both riders are for sale only and that Oxford jumped the gun in making their announcement. A Bees statement reads: “If the Oxford promotion wishes to race this year with either of these riders the answer is simple, just buy them. Then they can boast about having a competitive side.” PAUL Pickering is back as captain of Stoke after standing down from the role last season. Pickering takes the job back from Jan Staechmann in time for Saturday’s opener with Newcastle at Loomer Road. Pickering said: “I stood down last season whilst I sorted a few things out, but I definitely wanted it again and I’m pleased to have been asked. Now I can’t wait for the start.” MILDENHALL have snapped up grass track rider Gareth Hickmott to complete their 2005 team plans. Hickmott, 24, missed the bulk of last season with a shoulder injury but is now fit and ready to race. Fen Tigers boss Wayne Swales said: “We have the look of a solid team and a lot of young riders who can only improve and get better during the season and Gareth certainly fits that bill.” (FIXTURES) MONDAY MARCH 7 INDIVIDUAL: Peter Craven Memorial Trophy, Belle Vue 7.45 WEDNESDAY MARCH 9 CHALLENGE: Hull v Sheffield 7.30 MAURICE LITTLECHILD MEMORIAL TROPHY: Stars v Knights (at King''s Lynn) 7.45 THURSDAY MARCH 10 AIR TEK TROPHY: Ipswich v Peterborough 7.30 FRIDAY MARCH 11 AIR TEK TROPHY: Peterborough v Ipswich 7.30 CL INTERNATIONAL: Scotland v England (at Edinburgh) 7.30
