GIRL ON A DISCOUNT!
01 March 2005 - Bikesure
Bikesure’s new scheme is result of female bikers’ great (statistical) figures.Plus free breakdown insurance introductory offer.
Bikesure - the motorcycle insurance specialist - has launched ‘Girl@Bikesure’, a scheme that sees discounts of around 10% for female riders in most circumstances. Girl@Bikesure is possible thanks to actuarial figures that show female riders are less likely to be involved in accidents and make fewer claims than male bikers, and thus are better risks for insurance companies. And as an introductory bonus – until May 31st - Bikesure is adding a year’s free breakdown insurance, normally worth an extra £40. Girl@Bikesure follows on the heels of Girl@Flux, a similar policy for female car drivers by Bikesure’s parent Adrian Flux that narrowly survived an attempt last year by the European Commission to outlaw it on the grounds of ‘sex discrimination’. “Our statistics show women cost us significantly less than men in claims, so it seems only reasonable to reward them for this”, said Robert Balls of Bikesure. “We had hoped to roll out Girl@Bikesure last year, but held off until we could be sure that Brussels wouldn’t ban it in its first year of operation.” After a concerted campaign, including representations by Flux’s local MP, Shadow Industry Minister Henry Bellingham, the threat was dropped. And the new Bikesure scheme got the green light. The promotion means that any female biker taking out a new policy with Bikesure qualifies for a year’s Rescue cover (normally costing £40) absolutely free. There’s no age limit and it doesn’t matter what bike you ride. As with traditional rescue services, roadside help is just a phone call away. With Bikesure Rescue the bike is covered, not the driver, and the cover extends to any rider. As well as roadside assistance, the scheme offers ‘homestart’ and roadside recovery to the bike’s destination or home. “Incidentally, the breakdown doesn’t have to be mechanical”, says Robert Balls. “It could be as simple as running out of petrol. Being stuck by the road in the open, or trudging off to find petrol and leaving your bike unattended can be very unsafe – whether for men or women.” Bikesure has a huge range of specialist policies for the motorcycle enthusiast, including schemes for trikes and quads.
