CAN CARMICHAEL START A STREAK IN ST. LOUIS?
28 February 2005 - Clear Channel Entertainment

It’s been a storybook season for Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael in THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series racing. This weekend the 25-year-old racer from Havana, Fla., races for his first win at St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome since 2002.

After missing the entire 2003-2004 THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series with a knee injury, Carmichael has emerged as the season’s points leader with a 32-point lead over reigning THQ AMA Supercross Series champion Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla.

In Atlanta, Carmichael trailed archrival Reed for the first five laps but crashed. Carmichael remounted in third place and spent the next 12 laps chasing Reed again before he made the pass and earned his sixth win of the season.

''After the crash, I didn''t think I could get the win, but I tried to put my head down and at least get second,'' he said. ''But my Makita Suzuki RM250''s set-up is really good and it''s better in the flat turns. I have to attribute the good starts I''ve been getting to the bike because the power is really great. It''s just all about the bike.''

Last weekend Kawasaki’s Grant Langston, of Murrieta, Calif., won his first 125cc Eastern Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series race since Dallas in 2001. The win in Atlanta moved Langston into the season’s points lead over Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps.

Last year, Yamaha’s Reed won his eighth THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series race at the Edward Jones Dome before 49,025 fans. Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., clinched his first THQ AMA 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross Series championship with two east coast races remaining.
