More than 500 people drive on track and raise cash for local hospice
Hundreds of residents from the villages around the Brands Hatch circuit enjoyed the track’s inaugural Villages Day on Sunday, February 27. More than 500 local residents visited the famous track to hear about owner MotorSport Vision''s plans for the next 12 months, and take the opportunity to drive on the hallowed asphalt of the circuit themselves. The innovative event was designed by MotorSport Vision to say thank you to all local residents for their support of the famous Kent venue. Rides and drives in Megane Renaultsport 225s, JP2 sportscars, Caterham Sevens and Nissan Pathfinders were among the activities available as visitors sampled the whole range of MotorSport Vision driving experiences - RaceMaster, RallyMaster, SprintMaster and MudMaster. There was also the chance to perfect driving control skills in the Brands Hatch Power Turn buggies, and go on a guided tour of the entire venue. MotorSport Vision Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer gave presentations about his career, his first 12 months in charge of the MotorSport Vision group of circuits, and his plans for Brands Hatch during the coming season. Visitors were also given an outline of the main events planned for 2005, including the annual visit of the World Superbike Championship on August 6/7 and the inaugural round of the A1 Grand Prix Championship, which makes its world debut at Brands Hatch on September 24/25. Palmer said: ''It was lovely to see so many of our Brands Hatch neighbours discovering the thrill of driving at the venue. Locals are very proud of Brands Hatch and particularly of the progress that is now being made. It was really rewarding putting on the event to show our appreciation for their support.'' Visitors to the Villages Day paid £5 per activity, all of which went towards raising a grand total of £2540 for the Lions Hospice in nearby Farningham.
