ARMY SPEC. ROYAL ENFIELD GIVEN AUTHENTIC UNIFORM
02 July 2004 - Watsonian-Squire
Royal Enfield motorcycles have updated their Army model to give it an appearance almost identical to the bikes that it has supplied to the Indian Army for the past 50 years.
This new model has matt green paintwork on the bodywork complemented by matt painted wheels. The mudguards are heavily valenced, like the original, but the factory has made a major concession to civilian enthusiasts by adding an electric start. Royal Enfield motorcycles were originally imported into India shortly after independence, specifically to supply motorcycles to the Indian army. Since then the plant has supplied over 100,000 machines to the Indian army and a further 25,000 to the Police. During that time, the civilian version of the Bullet has achieved iconic status in India. The rugged 500cc single cylinder machines are fitted with a heavy-duty sub frame carrying “ammo box” metal panniers and engine crash bars. The factory fit UK-specification tyres, lights and indicators to comply with European safety standards. You can buy an Army Bullet for £3,181- on the road from one of the many Royal Enfield dealers located throughout the UK. Details from Watsonian-Squire on 01386 700907
