THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series, the world’s fastest growing motorsport, returns to San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium this Saturday. More than 500 truckloads of dirt will be brought into the stadium to configure the half-mile course that will entertain more than 60,000 fans.
Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael, of Havana, Fla., is coming off his fifth consecutive win as he races for his second career win at Qualcomm Stadium this Saturday. Last weekend at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, he felt at home on the east coast soil. ''It''s good to be back on the East Coast,” said Carmichael after his win in Indianapolis. “We''ve had some good races out West, but I feel more at home here and I know we have some good races coming up. But it really helps when the fans are behind you like they were tonight.'' Carmichael has led 97 laps in THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series. Defending THQ AMA Supercross champion Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla., has won the last two races in San Diego (‘03&’04), but has yet to capture a victory this season. Last year Yamaha’s Reed raced to his third THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series victory at Qualcomm Stadium in front of 61,062 fans. While Kawasaki’s Ivan Tedesco, of Murrieta, Calif., won the 125cc Western Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series main event. Tedesco, who has two wins on the season, has a 29-point lead over Yamaha’s Danny Smith in the 125cc Western Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series.
