SPEEDWAY NEWS - 14.2.05
14 February 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

NEWPORT''S Kristian Lund scored a 15-point maximum to win the British Open Indoor Ice Speedway Championship at Telford on Sunday.

Lund defeated reigning Champion Jan Staechmann when the pair met in Heat 11 and clinched the title by passing Stephan Katt in his last ride. Staechmann dropped just one point to take second place with Great Britain''s Aidan Collins winning four races on his way to third spot.

BERWICK''S plans for the new season have been thrown into disarray as the ambulance cover at their Shielfield Park venue has been withdrawn. Promoter Peter Waite is now facing a race against time to find alternative medical cover. Waite said: ''If we cannot get full ambulance and first aid staff cover, we will not run. This could signal the end of the Bandits, it''s as serious as that.''

BERWICK have pushed on with team planning despite the shock question mark over their future. The Bandits have snapped up 20-year-old Chris Schramm, who captained Great Britain Under-21s and rode for Reading last year. Promoter Peter Waite said: ''Assuming we manage to get over the ambulance hurdle, I think we will be starting 2005 in a better position than we have ever done since I took on promoting the Bandits.''
