SUPERCROSS TSUNAMI RELIEF AUCTION RAISES OVER $31,000 FOR VICTIMS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA Top THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series Riders’ Jerseys Auctioned Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motor Sports announced today that over $31,000 was raised for the relief efforts for the victims affected by the tsunami in Southeast Asia. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross’ tsunami relief fund.
Following the tragedy in late December, the riders of World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series took immediate action in lending a hand. Each rider who qualified for the 125cc and 250cc main event on January 8, 2005 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim donated their autographed jerseys to raise money for the victims. The jerseys were auctioned off on eBay for a period of 10 days.
“The THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series riders come through every time they are called on, “ said Michael Prince, vice president of tactical marketing, Clear Channel Entertainment - Motor Sports. “For the fans to support this cause to this level with the amounts they paid for each jersey is very gratifying.”
Sandee Hiser-Wells, of Templeton, Calif., purchased 16 of the jerseys including the autographed Ricky Carmichael Race Jersey that sold for $4051.99.
“My father’s only enjoyment in life is these riders, those jerseys and the races!” said an excited Hiser-Wells. “This was an opportunity to help out my father as well as the victims affected by this tragedy.”
