SHEFFIELD star Andre Compton has appointed former Tigers rider Peter Carr as his mechanical advisor for the coming season.
Carr is without a berth in the Premier League this year after leaving Edinburgh, but will work alongside Compton at Owlerton. Sheffield promoter Neil Machin said: ''For Andre to have the experience and knowledge of Peter in his corner is a major boost and a very progressive move on his part.'' STOKE star Jan Staechmann is optimistic of lifting a third consecutive British Open title in Sunday''s indoor ice international at Telford. Staechmann defeated Tony Atkin in a run-off last year for his third title in four years. The Dane said: ''I know I''m there to be shot down but we are keen to keep the ball rolling. I''m hoping to equal Andy Campbell''s record of three wins on the bounce.'' THE currently homeless Middlesbrough Bears speedway organisation will race second-half events at nearby Newcastle in 2005. Middlesbrough, who lost their Cleveland Park base in 1996, are still trying to bring professional speedway back to Teeside. Newcastle promoter Darryl Illingworth said: ''Middlesbrough will ride 10 meetings in our second halves, and it is a good move for all concerned.''
