ROAD TRAFFIC IN GREAT BRITAIN - Q4 2004

The Department for Transport has today published National Statistics on Traffic in Great Britain, including analyses by vehicle type and road class, for the fourth quarter of 2004 and 2004 as a whole.
These provisional figures indicate that estimated traffic levels rose by 2.3 per cent between the fourth quarters of 2003 and 2004. Traffic is estimated to have risen by 1.7 per cent between 2003 and 2004 as a whole. This continues the estimated underlying growth rate of between 1 and 2 per cent per annum since 1999. Other key results include: Provisional 2004 annual figures Comparing 2004 with 2003 as a whole: * Car traffic was 1.2 per cent higher * Light van traffic increased by about 5 per cent * Goods vehicle traffic was 2.9 per cent higher * Motorway traffic rose by about 2 per cent Provisional fourth quarter 2004 figures Between the fourth quarters of 2003 and 2004: * Car traffic rose by 2 per cent * Light van traffic was 6 per cent higher * Goods vehicle traffic rose by 5 per cent * Traffic on motorways rose by 5 per cent
