CARMICHAEL RACES ‘FOUR’ ANOTHER RECORD IN ANAHEIM
01 February 2005 - Clear Channel Entertainment
This weekend in Anaheim, Calif., Ricky Carmichael, who has a library of significant accolades to his name, can become Suzuki’s first rider ever to win four consecutive 250cc main events. Carmichael has won in Anaheim five times compared to reigning THQ AMA Supercross series champion Chad Reed’s three.
At San Francisco’s SBC Park Carmichael trailed Reed for the first seven laps before passing him. In the previous three races, Carmichael, of Havana, Fla., bested Reed through turn one and went virtually unchallenged en route to victory. In some ways last weekend’s race was a step forward for defending THQ AMA Supercross Series champion Chad Reed. Coming into the race he had yet to lead a lap of competition, but he managed to lead seven hard-fought laps before Carmichael made his move. ''I have a lot of respect for Chad. I had a great time and we had some good clean racing tonight,” said Carmichael after the race in San Francisco. “I stayed with him and let the race come to me and when he started making a few mistakes, I made my move to the front. He almost got back by me but I closed the door and did what I had to do to win.” Reigning 125cc Western Regional THQ AMA Supercross Series champion Ivan Tedesco finished third last weekend after starting near 18th place. Tedesco managed to hold on to the points lead. Anaheim 3 will air on ESPN 2 Monday, February 7 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
