ROYAL ENFIELD SIXTY-5 T
01 February 2005 - Watsonian-Squire

Royal Enfield has introduced a trials-styled version of the successful 5-speed Bullet Sixty-5 in response to demand from British riders, following its preview at the NEC last November.

This UK special draws on Royal Enfield’s past glories in trials, in the hands of riders such as Johnny Brittain, but in a user-friendly package for modern roads. Based on the perennial 500cc Bullet, the Sixty-5 T has been equipped with a host of new components, including off-road pattern ‘knobbly’ tyres, alloy mudguards and bash plate, sprung single saddle, wide bars, up-swept exhaust and a petrol tank that is re-sprayed to give an alloy finish.

While cosmetically an off-road machine of the 1950’s, this bike has two key differences. Unlike classic Bullets, fitted with the pre-unit “One up, three down” gearbox on the right hand side, the Sixty-5 T has the new gearbox, designed by Dr. Stuart McGuigan of Cranfield University in the UK, with the one-down, four-up pattern operated on the left side of the machine that will be familiar to riders of Japanese & modern European motorcycles. The other concession to modern life is an electric starter.

The traditional British 500cc OHV engine, however, remains unchanged, giving an authentic riding experience that has seen the Royal Enfield Bullet outselling traditionally styled modern bikes in British dealers’ showrooms during 2004. These include popular models from well-respected manufacturers, such as the Kawasaki ER-5 500cc twin and Ducati Monster 620 V-twin.

The Royal Enfield Bullet Sixty-5T sells for £3,908- on the road.
