MEET THE STARS ON THE BMW STAND
26 January 2005 - BMW Motorrad GB

The BMW Motorrad stand will become a hub of activity during this year’s Motor Cycle News London Motorcycle Show (29 January - 6 February) at Alexandra Palace.

Fans of the absorbing TV series, Long Way Round, will be able to meet actor and global traveller Charley Boorman, while off-road and rally fans can chat to 2005 Telefónica Dakar finisher Simon Pavey. One thing they must do though, is leave enough time to see BMW’s brand new ‘new generation’ models – the innovative R1200 RT and R1200 ST Boxer twins. Other bikes on display include the K1200 S and R1200 GS.

Following its press launch at Tenerife a week earlier there will be a first-ever UK public viewing of BMW Motorrad’s brand new tourer, the benchmark-setting R1200 RT. Also on display, the new R1200 ST sports tourer is BMW’s replacement for Britain’s number one bike the R1150 RS (RiDE 2003 Rider Power survey). Visitors and BMW enthusiasts can take a closer look at the design and engineering quality of the new machines and see what the latest BMW motorcycles look like ‘in the metal’.

The Long Way Round star Charley Boorman will open the show at 9am on Saturday 29 January, before appearing on the BMW Motorrad stand for autograph sessions and photo opportunities. Charley will also be available on the last weekend of the show. Visitors can see the actual BMW R1150 GS Adventure he rode on an epic round the world expedition alongside his friend Ewan McGregor (also GS mounted). There will be an opportunity to buy copies of the Long Way Round hardback book and a DVD of the series. A question and answer session with Charley, on the show’s sound stage, is also scheduled for each weekend.

Fresh (if that’s the word) from finishing the 2005 Telefónica Dakar Rally, honorary Brit and Team DOME BMW finisher, Simon Pavey, will be on the BMW stand on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 February. There is also a possibility that Simon will be able to display the F650 GS Dakar he rode to such great effect in the rally if it can be recovered out of Africa in time! This year’s event was one of the most gruelling in the history of the Dakar and Simon (who finished 78th overall) was one of only two British entrants to finish the event.

The 2005 BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment collection is fast approaching its official launch. Visitors will have the opportunity to preview the System 5 helmet, plus other products including the BMW Navigator II, the Rally 2 Suit, and SportsIntegral helmet.

The World of BMW has its own dedicated display on the BMW stand where visitors can obtain the latest 2005 World of BMW Activity Brochure. The publication details everything there is to know about the worldwide motorcycle touring and adventure programme; BMW Off-Road Skills courses in Wales; track days – and lots more.
