BERWICK have completed the signing of Joachim Kugelmann in a loan deal from Stoke. The German international, who has won his national championship twice, will start the season at reserve for the Shielfield Park side.

Bandits boss Peter Waite said: ''He has three brand new bikes lined up just for this year, and is incredibly determined to make 2005 the very best year in his career by far.''

REIGNING Premier League champions Hull have landed a new sponsorship deal - and co-promoter Paul Hodder believes it will help the club reach the Elite League. Hull-based Cleaning and Paper Disposals have sunk a five-figure sum into the Craven Park club. Hodder said: ''I don''t have a timescale for moving up, it''s basically when it becomes financially viable but a sponsorship deal like this can only help us.''

EXETER have appointed Graeme Gordon as their new team manager - after ruling him out of their team plans. Gordon suffered back injuries at the end of last season and is now looking forward to a new challenge. He said: ''The offer came as a complete surprise as I had never even considered the job. It promises to be a real challenge but I am looking forward to it.''

NEWPORT promoter Tim Stone has revealed that Tony Atkin was always in line for a return to the Hayley Stadium in the forthcoming season. Atkin has now been named as a starter for the Wasps and is likely to be a powerful reserve in the Welsh club''s revised line-up. Stone said: ''Despite some ill-informed speculation this winter Tony has always been in my plans, and he knows that.''

SWINDON have pulled the plug on their costly Conference League side. The Sprockets failed to get the necessary backing through the turnstiles and club bosses cannot allow it to continue next season. Co-promoter Alun Rossiter said: ''The decision is simply down to economics. I would like to put on record my grateful thanks to Martin Satchell, who did such a wonderful job with the youngsters last season.''
