BMF''S GEMS SHINES AGAIN!!
15 June 2004 - BMF
Despite a few spots of rain on the Saturday, last weekend’s Garden Of England Motorcycle Show (GEMS) brought a shine and a smile to thousands of bikers attending the popular Kent show.
Now in its ninth year, nearly 19,000 showgoers crammed into Kent’s Hop Farm venue at Paddock Wood where plenty of activities kept them entertained over the whole weekend. The main arena provided loads of entertainment from top stunt riders with the explosive Jake Semtex and side-kick Flyin’ Ryan doing their familiar but still entertaining pyrotechnic display, while the Over the Top Stunt Team lived up to their name with some amazing routines. Also putting on the style were the X-treme Trials Display Team featuring top European trials riders Martin Crosswaite and Dan Clark and in keeping with the current Euro football mania, Motoball, the crazy combination of football and bikes, added a whole new dimension to the beautiful game! Mix all of this with mini-quad bikes, the search and destroy fun of the Laser Storm quest game; and for the kids, inflatables, a funfair, side shows etc, and GEMS had something for everyone. But the day events were still only part of the fun for those camping. This year their numbers virtually doubled and under the night sky GEMS became a jewel as campers gathered in the ''Beer Barn'' for a jar or two and to enjoy the sound of live bands. No wonder that this popular event just keeps growing and growing! Note: Unfortunately our entertainments organiser Sheila McGrath and her partner Pete Oldfield were involved in a car accident on the way to the show. Our best wishes go to them for a speedy recovery. NEXT EVENT: Kelso Bikefest 18th July in beautiful border country.
