LUCKY WINNER COLLECTS RACE-REPLICA BIKE
17 January 2005 - Honda Racing
The lucky winner of a HM Plant Honda Racing CBR600RR race-replica motorcycle has picked up his new pride and joy from Lincolnshire-based Honda Racing’s workshop - and he did not waste any time in using it.
Lloyd Allen, from St Austell in Cornwall, was selected from over 4,000 entrants after correctly answering the following question: who is Honda Racing’s title sponsor for the British Superbike Championship? The answer is of course HM Plant. Following a short tour of the workshop, Lloyd was handed the keys to the motorcycle. He travelled back to Cornwall on the black and orange machine - a replica of the motorcycle ridden to a second consecutive victory in the 2004 British Supersport Championship by Honda Racing’s Karl Harris. Karl won six out of last year’s 13 races on the CBR600RR and celebrated a further four podium finishes. In addition to being the road-going version of the machine that won the championship in 2003 and 2004, the CBR600RR was one of 2004’s best-selling motorcycles in the fiercely competitive 600cc, UK sports bike class. HM Plant, the UK’s number one excavator supplier and one of Britain’s major motorsport sponsors, launched the competition as part of its extensive promotion programme. Proceeds from the competition will be donated to the Butterwick Hospice in Bishop Aukland - a unit for children suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases. A delighted Lloyd was thrilled to get his hands on the motorcycle: “The fact that I have won still hasn’t sunk in. I never normally win anything and to receive a prize like this is beyond belief. As a fan of motorcycle racing it is a dream to have the opportunity to ride a race-replica bike, let alone own one! You can guarantee that I will be the envy of a lot of people.” HM Plant Chairman John Jones commented: “HM Plant’s fundraising activities in the past have always proved successful and we are proud to have been able to help the Butterwick Hospice again. Everyone involved in the promotion has given it their full support and we would like to thank Honda Racing, in particular, for its participation. I am sure that the machine will provide Lloyd with hours of enjoyment.”
