‘FOXY’ SUPPORTS BENNETTS’ “STOP THE ROUGH RIDE” CAMPAIGN
02 February 2004 - Bennetts

Pop Idol judge and Capital FM’s Neil Fox has shown his support to Bennetts’ “Stop The Rough Ride” campaign, in association with the BMF, to improve the condition of roads for bikers.

Bennetts, one of the UK’s major players specialising in motorcycle insurance, unveiled the campaign as the first to come from the ‘Bennetts Biker Report’ – a survey of bikers that provides an authoritative insight into the views of the modern day biker.

The campaign has now been given the seal of approval from ‘Foxy’, who himself is a keen motorcycle fan and owner of a Harley Davidson.

Neil said: “As a member of the biking community I am delighted to give my full support to the ‘Stop The Rough Ride’ campaign. I know from experience the problems with some roads today for bikers and this campaign will do a superb job in highlighting this important issue for motorcyclists to the public and authorities.”

In the ‘Bennetts Biker Report’, bikers were asked what their biggest issue or concern as a rider was, with respondents most commonly highlighting the poor conditions of some roads in the UK.

95% of bikers have had a problem with the roads - 61% of bike riders frequently encounter problems with potholes and manhole covers when riding, 48% having difficulties with road repairs and 26% with loose gravel.

6% of bikers suffered personal injury due to these road condition issues, and 14% damage to their bike – 8% of all respondents have had cost implications from these incidents, but none have claimed compensation from the council.

The ‘Stop The Rough Ride’ campaign also has the backing of World Superbike Champion, Neil Hodgson, who is sponsored by Bennetts, and launched the campaign at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at the NEC in November last year.

Visitors to the MCN London Motorcycle Show at the Alexandra Palace this week will be able to get their hands on ‘Stop The Rough Ride’ flyers encouraging bikers to ‘name and shame’ and unveil the worst roads for bikers in the country.

Matthew Gledhill, Director of Bennetts, said: “We are delighted that Neil Fox has shown his support to the campaign and would like to thank him for doing this. At Bennetts the safety of motorcyclists and the condition of their bikes are two of our main priorities. We want to speak on behalf of bikers - which is why we decided to launch the ‘Stop The Rough Ride’ campaign.”
