COVENTRY-BASED BENNETTS SPONSOR LOCAL DRAG BIKE RACER Coventry-based Bennetts Insurance Services, one of the UK''s major players specialising in motorcycle insurance, has announced its latest sponsorship deal with local drag bike star, Geoff Connor. Geoff (49), who rides for Coventry’s Team Breakout, received a cheque for £500 from Bennetts to help cover the cost of entrance fees to forthcoming national races. Geoff, whose partner Wendy Rushton is employed by Bennetts, has been racing on drag bikes for the past nine years and is competing in eight national races this season including five at Santa Pod Raceway and three at Shakespeare County Raceway. Taking part in what is known as ‘bracket racing’ where riders aim to cover a quarter of a mile in under 9.9 seconds and reaching speeds of over 160mph, Geoff rides a ‘990’ bike, which was built to his own specification. Having finished fourth overall last season out of 30 riders, Geoff is looking for a top three finish this time round. Matthew Gledhill, Managing Director of Bennetts said: “I’m pleased we have tied up a deal to sponsor Geoff Connor and that we are able to give him the financial support he is looking for to help him with the ever increasing costs of racing. Bennetts wish him every success this season.”
