SPEEDWAY NEWS - 6.1.05
06 January 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

BELLE VUE have announced the shock signing of Rye House man Steve Masters to complete their team for the new season.

Masters has plenty of experience and was quick to agree a deal once Aces boss Ian Thomas approached him. Thomas said: ''He does well on smaller tracks like ours. He is confident he ''ll do a good job for us at reserve and so am I.''

MARK Burrows has agreed a new deal to stay with Conference League Wimbledon for a third successive season. Burrows, known throughout the sport as ''Buzz'', turned down offers from clubs nearer his Yorkshire base. He finished second in the league averages last year. Dons chairman Ian Perkin said: ''Buzz has been a massive points scorer for us over the past two seasons and provides spectacular racing for the fans.''

REIGNING British Open Champion Jan Staechmann faces three former title holders in the indoor ice international at Telford on February 13. Staechmann, bidding for his fourth title and third in a row, comes up against England''s Paul Hurry, the 199 winner, America''s Ronnie Correy
(1997) and Czech Republic star Mario Jirout (1998).
Telford co-promoter Graham Drury said: ''It''s going to be a real battle of the titans this year.''
