SPEEDWAY NEWS - 2.1.05
02 January 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

COVENTRY are co-ordinating a countrywide contribution to the Tsunami Appeal following the tragic earthquake in South-East Asia.

They have made Brandon Stadium available as a collection point for all speedway supporters in the UK, and are holding an auction of speedway memorabilia on January 22. Co-promoter Jeremy Heaver explained: “We want clothes, blankets and non-perishable goods, and we will also forward on cash, cheques or credit card donations.”

KING’S Lynn have won the race to sign talented Australian teenager Troy Batchelor. The 17-year-old from Queensland had interest from several Premier League clubs with Sheffield and the Isle of Wight strongly linked. Stars boss Keith Chapman said: “Troy could turn out to be one of our best ever signings, he’s a natural racer who never knows when to give up. We’ll see for ourselves soon enough.”

TALKS are taking place with a potential backer to help secure the future of Conference League club Carmarthen. The Dragons need extra revenue as they cannot survive on cash through the turnstiles alone at the United Counties Showground in Nantyci. Chairman Nigel Meakins said: “A person acting on our behalf has been in talks with interested parties over the past few days. We have to keep our fingers crossed.”
