A Taunton man finally collected his competition prize earlier this week after months of waiting.

Most motorcycle fans, when told that they have not only won a top of the range Ducati 999, but that it has been signed by current World Superbike Champion Neil Hodgson, would rush to pick up their new pride and joy. However for Simon Trowbridge it took slightly longer.

Simon was lucky enough to win the monster bike in a competition run by Bennetts, one of the UK’s major players specialising in motorcycle insurance, and Bike magazine, but when he was announced as the winner he hadn’t even passed his test.

Several months and two test attempts later, Simon has finally been able to pick up his dream machine from his local dealer, Riders of Bridgwater, Wylds Road, Bridgwater.

Simon only got into motorcycling last summer having never ridden a bike before, so when he got the call to say he had won this top of the range motorcycle he assumed it was a friend winding him up.

Simon, 32, said: “I am over the moon to have won this competition. Having finally passed my test I am so excited to now have my bike. It really is my dream machine and I have to pinch myself to believe that I actually own a top of the range bike.”

Managing Director of Bennetts, Matthew Gledhill, said: “On hearing that Simon is a novice biker with limited riding experience, Bennetts has also arranged for him to receive additional advanced riding tuition with P.R.I.D.E. It’s a powerful bike, especially for a novice rider, and we decided it was very important that he was well prepared and understood the full capacity of his bike before he took to the roads.”

Bennetts has also provided Simon with a year’s free insurance, ensured the bike was fully taxed and also fitted it with the latest alarm and immobiliser system for extra security.
