18 December 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

NEWCASTLE have just one spot to fill in their 2005 team after announcing a trio of signings on Friday evening.

Former Berwick skipper Claus Kristensen joins the Diamonds, whilst Jamie Robertson and Lubos Tomicek are returning from this year''s squad. Promoter George English said: ''This is a side that I really believe in to do well for us next year, and March cannot come round quickly enough.''

SOMERSET have signed British youngster Jason King to fill one of their reserve berths in 2005, with the 19-year-old joining on loan from Peterborough. King has previously ridden for current Somerset promoter Pete Toogood at Swindon in 2002, and raced for Mildenhall in the Conference League this year. King said: ''I have always rated Somerset amongst my favourite tracks and I am really looking forward to putting in some big scores.''

ARENA-ESSEX are set to make a decision this weekend concerning their proposed name change for the 2005 season. The Hammers are considering becoming known as Thurrock in order to make their stadium location clearer to potential supporters. Promoter Ronnie Russell said: ''I am looking to secure the long term financial future of the club, and if that means a change of name I have to seriously consider it.''
