CHRISTMAS RUSH STARTS ON TUESDAY, WARNS GREEN FLAG
16 December 2004 - Green Flag Motoring Assistance
Motoring assistance service, Green Flag, is predicting that this Tuesday(December 21) will be one of the busiest days of the month as people taketo the roads on last- minute shopping trips.
Green Flag expects to attend more than 60,000 breakdowns over the Christmas period with more than 10,000 motorists getting into trouble on Tuesday alone. ''The run up to the Christmas holidays, right into the New Year are always among the busiest days for dealing with breakdowns,'' said Nigel Charlesworth, Green Flag spokesperson. ''We put this down to last-minute shopping for Christmas gifts, especially with many stores already making price cuts, or planning to launch their sales earlier this year.'' The busiest time of the day is expected to be between 8am and 9.30am on Tuesday, according to Green Flag, when many people will be hitting the shops early to pick up bargains. After predictions for Britain to have one of the coldest winters in years, bookies are offering 11/2* for one flake of snow to fall during the 24 hours of Christmas Day in London, Manchester, Cardiff or Glasgow. Nigel Charlesworth added: ''If weather conditions do worsen over Christmas, our advice to motorists is to give yourself plenty of time to travel to your destination, carry out a check over the vehicle before setting off, keep a mobile phone to hand in case of emergencies and make sure you are with a breakdown service that can get to you fast.'' ''We wish everyone travelling on the roads this Christmas and New Year safe and trouble-free travel,'' Nigel Charlesworth added.
