NEW SIGNING: WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
13 December 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
AUSSIE showman Steve Johnston has joined Wolverhampton to add charisma and experience to their 2005 Elite League squad.
Johnston, who first raced in Britain for Sheffield a decade ago, has completed the move after he was ruled out of Swindon''s plans due to the new points limit. His knowledge of the Elite League tracks and lively attitude in the pits will be a major bonus to the team which is shaping up to be a solid 1-7. Apart from riding, Johnston is also developing a career as a TV pundit for live Elite League and Grand Prix action on Sky Sports. Wolverhampton promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''None of our riders will be allowed to drop their heads or anything like that next season because Johno will be there to kick them up the backside. ''He can perform a very solid role for us at the same time as adding excellent team spirit which is vital. he is one of the sport''s genuine characters and that''s what we need.'' Johnston joins Freddie Lindgren, Ronnie Correy, David Howe and Magnus Karlsson in next year''s Wolves side.
