11 December 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

COVENTRY will stage most home meetings on Fridays next season - after consulting their supporters. Up until last season the Bees were a Saturday track and they tried Thursdays in 2004 but fans have urged the club to move to a Friday racenight.

Bees owner Avtar Sandhu said: ''We have had enormous public response in favour of changing to Friday and we feel it will be a beneficial move for everyone.''

PREMIER League treble winners Hull have announced the signing of Garry Stead for a seventh successive season at Craven Park. The former Bradford man joins Paul Thorp, Emiliano Sanchez and Craig Branney as confirmed starters in the defence of their title. Vikings co-promoter Dave Peet said: ''Garry is very popular with the fans and on his day he''s one of the top riders in the league.''

EXETER have completed their first signing for the 2005 season with popular Australian Mark Lemon staying at the club. Team building has been on hold following the death of Falcons promoter Colin Hill but club officials are now ready to press ahead. Exeter Executive Mike Spearpoint said: ''We''re delighted that Lemo is staying with us and he will also help the youngsters at a special training day.''

SOMERSET have announced the signing of British Under-21 champion Ritchie Hawkins for the 2005 season. Hawkins spent the majority of last season with Berwick and doubled-up with Conference League winners Mildenhall. He joins Magnus Zetterstrom, Paul Fry and Glenn Cunningham at the Oak Tree Arena. He said: ''I''m delighted to be joining Somerset, I know Pete Toogood runs a very professional outfit and I really enjoy the track there.''
