POOLE and Great Britain manager Neil Middleditch has won the BBC South Sports Personality of the Year award.
Middleditch inspired the Pirates to the Elite league and cup double and won admirers for his work with the national team. Poole also won the male team award at the presentation in Southampton. He said: ''I was stunned. It''s a fantastic honour for me, for Poole and for the sport in general.'' OXFORD have held preliminary talks with inspirational skipper Greg Hancock. The Silver Machine are keen to keep the 1997 world champion for next year but his parent club Coventry have also hinted that they may want to recall him. Oxford boss Nigel Wagstaff said: ''We had constructive talks and I am now pressing ahead with my team plans, that''s all I can say at this stage.'' WOLVERHAMPTON have confirmed the signing of Magnus Karlsson for the 2005 Elite League season. Karlsson has won successive Premier League titles with Edinburgh and Hull but now feels the time is right to move up. Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''We believe Magnus is making the right decision. It will be a big year for him and he joins Freddie Lindgren and David Howe in a young team so far.''
