Watsonian-Squire sidecars provide family fun
The Worlds longest surviving sidecar manufacturer, Watsonian-Squire, is continuing to run at capacity to keep up with demand, in spite of a significant downturn in exports. The Company reports that for many years exports accounted for approximately 60% of production, but this year the figure has been reversed, with the domestic market absorbing 60% and exports just 40%. During 2004 Wasonian’s skilled workforce have produced an average of 3 sidecars every week at the factory, located near the picturesque Cotswoild town of Moreton-in-Marsh. The RAC released a report in 2003, which showed that the number of sidecars on the road had increased by 25% since 1993. Watsonian believe that the increase can be explained by riders with young children who want to include the whole family in their motorcycling. “It seems that there are a lot of people out there who believe that the family that rides together, stays together” according to Technical Director Mike Raahauge. Watsonian-Squire offers a wide choice of sidecars, from a lightweight single-seater that can be fitted to a scooter, to the Oxford DL capable of carrying up to four children! The model pictured is a PV1 fitted to a Piaggio X9 250cc scooter. Anyone with a full motorcycle licence can ride a sidecar outfit.
