SUZUKI MEN TAKE SECOND SLOTS
01 November 2004 - Suzuki GB PLC
Team Motovision Racing Suzuki riders Neville Bradshaw and Kim Ashkenazi hold second place in the British Supercross 125 and Open classes after the weekend’s second and third round double header in Glasgow.
Although Bradshaw struggled in the muddy conditions in the first night of racing in front of 1500 spectators, he improved to grab fourth on the second night. The mud was due to the dirt not being covered and heavy rain before the event making conditions unusual and difficult with some ruts going down to the floor of the exhibition centre. In the first night’s final, Bradshaw had a poor start and could only manage sixth by the finish. Said Bradshaw ''I''m really disappointed as I wanted to do well here. I didn''t get the start I needed and it was an uphill struggle from there''. Ashkenazi was looking for a better result for the when the Pro Open race started but it was not to be as he too started badly and was in eighth on the opening lap. ‘Ashcan’ battled with former British MX Champions Paul Cooper and Gordon Crockard until he crashed on the rutted triple jump and then remounted only to go down again a further two times. He said: ''I just went out thinking I need to go for it and get stuck in. It’s been a hard night for all the riders because you can''t prepare for these conditions but it was the same for everyone and the organisers have done the best they can to salvage the situation.'' In the second night’s final, Bradshaw was hoping to get away from the start in the same fashion as his earlier heat race, but went too early and had to pull back, which landed him yet another average start. He battled throughout the race and climbed to fourth by the flag. He said: ''I felt really good after my heat but it just shows how important the start was this weekend. I''m pleased to come out of it in second in the Championship and I will be looking to the next round at Cardiff to step back onto the podium. Hopefully the top step!'' Ashcan went to the line determined to right his ninth from the previous night and gated in fourth behind James Noble, Jordan Rose – the winner of the first night - and multi-British Motocross Champion Gordon Crockard. On the second lap Rose and Crockard both went wide in a corner allowing Ashcan to go inside and pass both. From then on in he fended off the challenge from Crockard and by mid distance had a few seconds gap and could start to close on Noble. Kim got to within a second of Noble but couldn''t find a way past. ''I''m pretty happy getting on the podium as it was tough out there. Overall we didn''t do our Championship too much harm and I''m looking forward to Cardiff where I hope to repeat last year’s victory,'' he added. Championship points (after 3 rounds): Pro 125’s: 1 Carl Nunn 90, 2 Neville Bradshaw (Motovision Suzuki) 67, 3 Shaun Simpson 65, 4 Jonathan Pettitt 61, 5 Neil Prince 57, 6 Kyle Beaton 52. Pro Open: 1 Jordan Rose 70, 2 Kim Ashkenazi (Motovision Suzuki) 65, 3 Ryan Voase 57, 4 James Noble 54, 5 Gordon Crockard 52, 6 Paul Cooper 49.
