NEW SUZUKI RE-CAPTURE’S THE V-TWIN SPIRIT

Suzuki’s new competitively-priced SV650 is now available at dealers with the semi-faired SV650S due to arrive by the end of the month.

The latest version of the UK’s best selling motorcycle, year-to-date, promises even more for its value-for-money price tag. As part of Suzuki GB’s price review in December 2003, aimed at providing ultra-competitive and realistic retail prices across the board, the SV650 will now cost just £4,349 and the SV650S, £4,549 on-the-road.

Both Suzuki models feature innovative, dynamic styling and the classic V-twin concept combines smooth, useable power with the latest in high-performance engineering. The integrated design of the SV650 positions the engine with the cylinders in a 90o layout, allowing the wheelbase to be kept short and resulting in a more compact and manoeuvrable package.

Since its introduction to the UK in 1999, the SV650 has proved to be the ideal machine for riders looking for versatility in their chosen stead. It is a well-balanced and adaptable all-rounder that is as stable and confidence-inspiring to the newly qualified, as it is exhilarating to the power hungry experienced motorcyclist. It is available in a version which conforms to direct access licence specification and those riders with environmental issues at heart will be pleased to hear that its efficient fuel-injection system is supported by the fitment of a catalyzer to reduce emissions in line with Euro 2 regulations.

So why change such a perfect package? Suzuki has listened to its customers’ comments and strived to make this popular machine even better. It has a host of subtle changes which provide greater comfort for the pillion passenger as well as rider together with slicker styling and all-new colour combinations.

The thicker seat pad is re-profiled to make it easier for the rider to touch the ground at standstill, footpegs have been lowered and moved back and the lower frame rail, now manufactured from lighter aluminium, drops the pillion seat position.

To improve the already stylish machine, the rear mudguard is shaved in size but still complies with legal requirements and both models are now available in blue, yellow and black eye-catching colour schemes.

Whilst there are only a handful of differences between them, the characters of the SV650 and SV650S are quite different. The most visible difference is the half-fairing on the ‘S’ model which incorporates dual integrated headlamps, a fairing-mounted instrument panel, streamlined side-mounted mirrors and clip-on handlebars -–advantages that become obvious on longer runs when greater wind protection is required and higher speeds sustained.

The unfaired SV650 version features taller, tubular handlebars, triple-clamp mounted instruments, bar-mounted round mirrors and a single, round multi-reflector headlamp in a chrome housing. A 4kg weight advantage and a more upright riding position combine to give the naked machine a little extra zap for regular town use.

The best-selling SV650/S is clearly a firm favourite in the UK and with the 2004 version now available, Suzuki is confident that this is a machine that will continue to grow with its rider. The only problem is which model to choose.
