VICTORY FOR RUTTER
20 November 2004 - Honda Racing

Michael Rutter has won his third consecutive Superbike race at the Macau Grand Prix this weekend.

Honda Racing Workshop Co-ordinator Simon Buckmaster’s final report from the Far East tells how Rutter did it aboard the Red Bull Honda Racing CBR1000RR. . .

“Michael rode a great race as he diced with John McGuiness throughout. McGuiness led off the start and pulled out a two-second advantage before Michael upped his pace and closed in to take the lead, braking for the Lisboa hairpin on lap seven of the 15-lap race.

“From then on he was never headed, but Michael and John rode less then half a second apart for the rest of the race. Stuart Easton initially held on to the leading two in third position before dropping back as the pace got hotter in the dice for the lead.

“Never the less, this was a great ride by Easton in only his second Superbike ride here in Macau as he finished third – 24 seconds back from the lead but 13 seconds ahead of fourth placed Thomas Hinterreiter.

“Michael was very good under braking throughout the race and through the fast corners from the final hairpin to the start and finish. This enabled him to hold McGuiness at bay and record his fifth win at the event and his third in a row – the first time this has been done.

“I am very pleased for Michael and all the team who have done a great job here for Honda and Red Bull our sponsor for this event.”
