DOCTOR COSTA EXPECTING BIAGGI TO RECOVER WELL
19 November 2004 - Honda Racing

Clinica Mobile medic Doctor Costa is feeling optimistic about Max Biaggi’s recovery after helping the Italian MotoGP star through his operation at a hospital in Lyon last week.

Costa accompanied Biaggi and his physiotherapist Marino Laghi to the Clinique du Parc last Monday.

Biaggi underwent an operation on Tuesday to repair a displaced fracture of the fibular malleolus and an intra-articular displaced fracture of the body of astragalus of his left ankle. Biaggi sustained the painful injury in a Supermoto accident nearly two weeks ago.

It was a highly complicated operation and two medical teams had to be employed. As part of the surgery, two Herbert screws were inserted in the astragalus and another one in the fibula to fix the fractures.

“His condition [after the operation] is good,” said Costa. “His sense of humour surprised me! He was not allowed to eat or drink anything, but his need for a margherita pizza was so great that I went down to the shop and bought him a slice.

“The successful outcome of the operation allowed Max to return home to Monaco on 11 November. In fourteen days he will be able to begin rehabilitation with his physiotherapist Marino Laghi.”
