DIVERSITY IS THE KEY TO MOTORCYCLE SALES INCREASE
16 November 2004 - Motor Cycle Industry Association Ltd

As the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show comes to a close the figures released today from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) show how sales have continued to increase in diverse sectors.

Significant growth continues in the increasingly popular Adventure Sport sector which saw an increase of 53% compared to October 2003.

The second biggest rise was recorded in the custom category which experienced a 27% increase in sales.

Interest in sports motorcycles also continues to be solid and the SuperSport motorcycle class grew by 13%. The dual-purpose (on/off road) Trail/Enduro class grew by 9%. The Naked class of unfaired motorcycles, another mainstay of the industry, also improved slightly on October 2003.

Craig Carey-Clinch, MCI’s Director of Public Affairs commented, “October’s sales figures provide evidence that there is still a strong interest in motorcycling and that the market is attracting people who are interested in a diverse range of bikes.

“The statistics suggest that motorcycling is changing. Manufacturers can be heartened that the public are increasingly looking for choice and variety and are buying bikes from all sectors

“Although year to date registrations are lower than in 2003, the recovery of new motorcycle sales indicates that year-end figures will not be as gloomy as some expected”.
