AKUMA HELMETS SUPPORT SCOTS ‘COAST RODE’ BIKERS
24 July 2008 - Coast Rode

First UK test for state of the art lids on round Britain trek

A group of biker friends from Scotland have become the first people in the country to get their hands on lids from US company, Akuma Helmets. The generous donation comprises two Akuma V2 ‘Stealth’ helmets and a V1 ‘Ghostrider’ lid. The guys will also benefit from the use of 3 Kappa Tote Bags provided by Phoenix NW.

The team will be embarking on a 4000 mile ride around Britain to raise money for Macmillan and Marie Curie cancer care. The plan is brain child of David O’Rourke, who sadly lost his father to the illness one year ago. A website, www.coastrode.co.uk has been set up to allow people to follow the journey and make donations.

Certified to EU standard ECE 22-05 the helmets meet all the stringent tests put in place across Europe where Akuma www.akumahelmets.com is hoping to expand its business in the near future.

Chairman of Akuma Helmets, Kerry Harris, said:

''This is a very noble cause and the guys from Coast Rode should be commended for undertaking the ride. I never met David''s father John or John''s grandson, but what I can tell you is that I am a father and, God willing; I will be a grandfather one day. If our small contribution can assist these guys with raising money for Cancer research and allow someone Else''s Grandfather to spend more time with their grandchildren, then we are even more humbled and honoured to have been a part of their undertaking.''

Organiser David O’Rourke said:

“One of the key messages we will be taking on our tour is one of safety on the roads so we are extremely grateful to Akuma Helmets for their support and given the UK weather, our route and the roads we will be on there can be no greater test on road for a new product.

”We are also grateful for the support of Phoenix NW and their donation of luggage. We’re obviously hoping for good weather but looking at the summer so far decent waterproof kit will be the order of the day!”

Akuma and Phoenix www.phoenixnw.co.uk are the latest sponsors to support the trip. Aprilia has donated a 750 Shiver for and Scotland’s Vita Mobile (www.vitamobile.com) has generously given £2000 to help with the trip costs. Starcom1 have chipped in with some intercoms for the guys and Little Angel Design has crafted a website for free. Fife Police will also be supporting the event sending along officers from their motorcycle division to the launch.

Further support, particularly to help with fuel costs is needed. Anyone wishing to help can donate via the website or contact coastrode@yahoo.co.uk

A full list of locations/way points for the trip is available on www.coastrode.co.uk and you can also add the Coast Rode team as a friend on Myspace (www.myspace.com/coastrode).
