KELSO BIKEFEST A REAL HIT
22 July 2008 - BMF
Record number of campers (up 1500 on last year)
The BMF''s Kelso Bikefest seemed to defy the worst of the surrounding weather over the weekend and yet again proved a real hit with those visiting this striking Border country. Some light showers on Saturday put off a few day visitors, but Sunday’s bright weather made up for it and certainly didn’t spoil things for the record number of campers (up 1500 on last year), who were entertained throughout the evening with a multi band line-up headed up by top tribute band Limehouse Lizzy. Kelso BikeFest has always attracted excellent entries and large crowds for the Best in Show competition and from the eight classes, the stunning all-black Harley engined special of Paul Niven from Galashiels won the day. Also attracting large crowds was the arena entertainment with a stunning show put on by trick trials ace Steve Colley and stunt displays by the Monster sponsored American freestyle team with their spectacular globe riding stunts involve two people and three bikes at any one time! With over one hundred trade, club and auto jumble stands plus side shows, inflatables and a fun fair, it’s no wonder Kelso Bikefest maintains its reputation as one of the BMF’s most popular events. Results: Best in Show: All-Black Harley owned by Paul Niven, Galashiels. Best Chopper: Harley owned by Jimmy Chisholm, West Calder. Best Streetfighter: Suzuki Bandit owned by Neil Martyniuk, Dumfries. Best Custom: Harley V Rod owned by Alex Shannon, Falkirk. Best Classic/Vintage: Norton Cafe Racer owned by Ian Smith, Galashiels. Best Trike/Outfit: Honda Rune owned by ‘Dumfries Dick’, Dumfries. Best Rat: Trike owned by Les Ward, Durham. Marshall’s Choice: Triumph Chop owned by Joan Leslie, Lanarkshire.
