USE THE RIGHT TYPE OF MOTORCYCLE OIL
14 July 2008 - Q8 Oils

Wet clutches need a specific blend

Q8Oils’ range of mineral, part- and fully-synthetic motorcycle engine oils all meet the current JASO MA standard, which is designed for vehicles fitted with a ''wet clutch.'' Motorcycle manufacturers are increasingly stating the importance of using appropriate lubricants to cope with the particular conditions experienced by motorcycle engines.

Most modern motorcycle clutches are bathed in the engine oil, to give smoother performance and longer life, and these require a specifically blended lubricant to avoid clutch slip. So in addition to selecting the appropriate grade of oil, (e.g. 10W-40), riders should check that it meets the relevant JASO (Japan Automobile Standards Organization) specifications. Q8Oils have a policy of clearly labelling their products so that both home mechanics and workshop technicians can quickly and easily identify the relevant product.

JASO also sets down specifications for two-stroke lubricants, using the letters FB, FC or FD, to distinguish it from the four-stroke rating.

Q8Oils has in-depth experience of motorcycle lubrication from its involvement in British Superbikes with Rizla Suzuki, Airwaves Ducati and this year supporting Quay Garage Honda. The lubricants used by the race teams are blended in Q8Oils'' purpose-built plant in Leeds, as is their range of oils for road riders.
