WHEN SHOULD YOU CHECK YOUR OIL?
18 June 2008 - Q8 Oils

Most manufacturers suggest checking the oil every week

Q8Oils have created an engine oil top up guide which is available to download free of charge from their website.

Low engine oil levels can seriously damage the health of an engine. If the oil level drops to a point where the engine is starved of oil, then very serious and expensive engine damage may well occur. Low oil levels also affect the bike’s performance and fuel consumption.

Most manufacturers suggest checking the oil every week and some recommend daily checks. The need to top up between services is not necessarily serious and some machines will consume up to 1 litre per 1,000 miles. Q8Oils recommend checking the oil before any long journey, along with coolant and tyres, as a few moments spent in preparation is better than hours of inconvenience and expense if the vehicle breaks down!

Q8Oils are well-placed to offer advice on motorcycle lubrication. The Leeds-based manufacturer enjoyed a consistently successful track record with Airwaves Ducati from 2005-‘07, during which time the team won both the Riders’ and Manufacturers’ Championships.
