YOUNGSTERS AND GUARDIANS FROM TEENAGE CANCER TRUST WERE GUESTS OF HONOUR OF THE TRIUMPH TRIPLE CHALLENGE
08 May 2008 - Teenage Cancer Trust
Including tours of the paddock and the Cadwell race control building
Youngsters and guardians from Teenage Cancer Trust were guests of honour of the Triumph Triple Challenge at the latest round of the series at Cadwell Park last weekend. TTC Coordinator, Paul Tovey, had organised for the members of Teenage Cancer Trust to visit Cadwell Park, where they were able to get up close and personal with some of the Triple Challenge race machinery. The staff and supporters from Bemsee made the day even more special, as they gave everyone trips around the 2.17 mile circuit to give them all a rider''s perspective of the track. Tours of the Bemsee paddock and the Cadwell race control building, as well as a talk with the commentators were also on the agenda for the visitors, all between watching the two Triple Challenge races during the course of the day. The youngsters also got the chance to try a Triple Challenge race bike for size, as Rhalf Lo Turco and David Jones let their machines be used for photos. ''The company I work for, Kimberly-Clark, decided to sponsor Teenage Cancer Trust and after looking into what the Trust is about and what they do to help I figured that the Bemsee paddock would be a brilliant place for teenagers to have fun and enjoy themselves. After all, most of the riders in the paddock are teenagers themselves,'' said Paul. ''I''m just really pleased that everyone enjoyed their day with us. We can''t thank Mike Dommett and all of his team at Bemsee enough for their help during the weekend and we hope that more members of TCT are able to come to other rounds later in the season,'' he added. Diane McCutcheon from Teenage Cancer Trust, who was at Cadwell with the youngsters, also thanked Paul and Mike for what was a busy and memorable day. ''We''d like to thank everyone at Cadwell Park for what was a brilliant day for the guys attending. Everyone did us proud and we''re all very, very grateful for your time and support.'' Six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer each day, that''s over 2,000 every year. But these young patients don''t stop being teenagers just because they get cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) ensures that young cancer patients get the best possible care in hospital and the chance to do all the things that other teenagers do. TCT funds specialist teenage cancer units in NHS hospitals, with the aim being to give every young person with cancer access to a unit and improve survival rates --. TCT currently has 9 units around the country and is planning to open a further 14 units by 2012. It costs around £2million to open a new unit, all of which TCT has to raise. Discussions are currently underway between Teenage Cancer Trust, NHS Trusts and Specialist Commissioners, regarding a new unit in the East Midlands, and a decision is expected to be reached by September 2008.
