07 November 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
KELVIN Tatum was cruelly denied a fourth World Longtrack title by mechanical failure in this weekend''s final round in New Zealand.
Having qualified for the meeting Final, Tatum could have afforded a fourth-place finish even if main rival Gerd Riss had won the race. However, Tatum was leading going into the last lap before hitting trouble, allowing Riss to win the meeting and snatch the title by two points. HULL''S veteran skipper Paul Thorp will ride on next season - but has warned that it could be his last year in the sport. The 40-year-old Thorp said: ''It''s my 25th season in 2005, but most probably it will be my last. I might continue, but it''s a slim possibility. ''I''ve made no secret of wanting to finish my career here, and people seem to think I''m part of the furniture.'' --- *BREAKING NEWS THROUGHOUT THE DAY AVAILABLE FROM: OFFICIAL BRITISH SPEEDWAY CLUBCALL NEWSLINE 09066 555 909 (calls cost 60p/min)
