BRISTOL BUILDS UP BRILLIANTLY
06 January 2008 - Classic Bike Shows

Bristol Classic MotorCycle Show and the 2008 event, to be held over 9-10 February at the Royal Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, looks like being the perfect curtain raiser to a classic year.

Among the many highlights is the Bristol branch of the Norton Owners Club efforts. They have lined up a fascinating roll call of Norton’s famous overhead camshaft engined models. Featuring – among others – Internationals from 1932 (rigid frame/girder forks), 1938 (early plunger/girders), 1938 (later plunger/girders), 1949 (plunger/Roadholders) and 1956 (Featherbed/ Roadholders), the display will cover all of the standard production frames offered by Norton for ‘Inter’ models.

Over 60 clubs are already confirmed for the show and there will be the usual eclectic mix of machinery on display, including an interesting collection by the Exeter two and three Wheeler club, largely coming from the Gould family, Malcolm, Trevor and Mike, who between them have contributed nine of the twelve machines to be displayed on the club stand, ranging from Malcolm’s 1928 Matchless T4 to Mike’s 1969 CB450 Honda.

The Classic MotorCycle contributor Andy Westlake and his pals from the Difazio Owners Club promise 10 examples of the hub-centre steerers, while there’ll be nine ‘Goldies’ in the BSA Gold Star Owners Club line-up and 16 Greeves appearing on the Greeves Riders Association display. Two to look out for are Dave Bradley’s 1951 and 1952 examples as you’ll not find many – if indeed any – earlier than that.

The London Douglas Club will be there with several of the machines featured in the 2007 The Classic MotorCycle Douglas centenary anniversary series – including David Coles’ works racer and a couple of machines from Eddie Turner – while the Malmesbury Classic Motorcycle Club (renowned for their innovative and show-winning stands) will, one can be sure, once again put on a fine show.

Exhibition Manager Nick Mowbray said: “We’re very excited about the 28th Bristol Classic Motorcycle Show. With new clubs exhibiting for the first time and advanced ticket sales racing in, we are sure this is going to be a great way to start the classic season”.
