NEW PIAGGIO X7
11 December 2007 - Piaggio

The Urban Scooter

Europe’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, Piaggio, has launched one of its most exciting urban scooters to-date – the Piaggio X7 – which is set to battle the ever-growing difficulty of urban and metropolitan commuting, while respecting the environment as the engine complies with strict Euro 3 emissions legislation.

The new X7, available in either a 125cc or 250cc engine (liquid cooled four stroke with advanced four valve cylinder heads) is an elegant and distinctively designed scooter combining lightweight design, dynamism and agility with excellent stability, road holding and protection previously only found on far bigger scooters.

Appealing to learners and full license holders alike, the scooter has been designed around the rider, using sophisticated materials to achieve improved ergonomics and a swift ride that also offers all the comfort and ease of control necessary for hectic city centre traffic.

The Piaggio X7 offers a new look, including streamlined protective leg shield; handlebar mounted windscreen to maximise aerodynamic performance (and excellent wind protection) and reduced overhang at the rear. The front of the bike features twinned headlights, while the faring either side of the mudguard forms robust shoulders providing effective protection for the paintwork. Elegant trim with metallic side and leg shield strips conveys an air of sophistication that belies its competitive price.

The same attention to detail extends to the instrumentation. Tilted towards the rider for ease of reading, the instruments feature elegant graphics and cover all the important functions.

The X7’s double-cradle frame is made from steel. The front end features a robust hydraulic fork with 35 mm stanchions, while the swingarm at the rear incorporates the transmission system and features two hydraulic shock absorbers with adjustable spring preload. The scooter is instantly identifiable for its large, light alloy, five spoke wheels (14” at the front and 13” at the rear) and impressive sports tyres (120/70 and 140/60). Safety is maximised by a braking system with discs all round, 260 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear. Both sets of discs are made from steel and are braked by twin piston floating callipers.

The 250cc version is fitted with electronic fuel injection providing exceptional power, low fuel consumption and reliability. The 125cc delivers 11 kW, giving the bike an exceptionally smooth ride and a top speed at the peak of its category.

The scooter offers a generous under-seat storage compartment, big enough to hold one full-face and one jet helmet, with a complete range of accessories tailored to riders’ needs also available. Including a large capacity top box, a 4 mm methacrylate windshield, electronic anti-theft alarm, leg cover and scooter cover.

In the UK, the Piaggio X7 is available in two different colour schemes - Nero (black) and Grigio Pulsar (grey pulsar) - and will be competitively priced at £2,599 for the 125cc and £2,999 for the 250cc on-the-road, inclusive of one-year roadside assistance and two years warranty as standard.

European legislation changes take effect in October 2008 which will make it more expensive and difficult to get your full bike licence needed to ride scooters over a 125cc engine displacement, so Now''s The Time to take your test to enjoy the benefits of two or three wheels.
