WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPION GIVES TOP TIPS TO YOUNG RACERS AHEAD OF NEC BIKE SHOW
Britain’s newly-crowned World Superbike Champion James Toseland has made a rare appearance in Birmingham city centre to meet fans and hand out some top tips to four of the UK’s brightest young bike racers. The sporting superstar, who is now one of the UK’s most successful motorcycle racers, was in town ahead of the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show which starts at the Birmingham NEC on Friday 23rd November and is set to be the biggest showcase of two-wheeled action ever seen in the UK. In the iconic Bullring centre the two-time World Superbike Champion handed out some expert advice to four of the UK’s brightest young mini-moto racers between six and 11 years-old. Former British mini-moto champion, 11 year-old Bradley Rea, was among those lucky enough to meet his hero in the centre of the city and take away some expert advice as well as the obligatory autograph. Rea was joined by three of the leading junior motorcycle racers in the country – 11 year-old Wayne Ryan, Fraser Rogers and six year-old Charlie Nesbit. Sitting astride a Honda CBR600RR in the centre of the Bullring, Toseland’s presence created a big stir in the middle of the afternoon; and the excited crowds quickly gathered to get a look at the biking superstar. His appearance coincides with the start of the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show – the biggest two-wheeled Show in the UK - which takes place at the Birmingham NEC from 23rd November – 2nd December. All of the young racers who met James will be at the NEC racing on the incredible Mini-Moto circuit at the Show which is also open to the public. Speaking after the event at the Bullring, James Toseland said: “It’s fantastic to meet such a talented group of young riders as Bradley, Wayne, Fraser and Charlie, and to bring biking into the centre of Birmingham as we have today. The West Midlands is the centre of British biking and next week’s NEC Bike Show will showcase the latest models from the biggest names in biking for the first time in the UK. It’s the perfect place for anyone to get their first taste of biking, including having a go on a mini-moto just like the ones we’ve had here in the Bullring today.” The 2007 NEC Bike Show takes place on the new dates of 23rd November – 2nd December (Press Day – 22nd November), in new halls 1, 2, 3, 3a & 4. Ticket prices have been frozen for a third consecutive year making the Show even better value.
