RIDESAFE BACKSAFE WINS INTERNATIONAL ROAD SAFETY AWARD
22 November 2007 - Ride Safe Back Safe
Lancashire’s RideSafe BackSafe team will be presented with a Commendation Certificate by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, for there work on behalf of motorcyclists across the North West region.
The award will be made at an Annual Awards Luncheon Ceremony at the Savoy Hotel in London on Monday 11th December. The International Road Safety Awards recognise achievement and innovation that improves road safety in the UK and this is the first year that the team have put themselves forward for consideration. The RideSafe BackSafe initiative promotes defensive road riding for effective risk assessment and encourages bikers to improve their skills through training, as well as emphasising the benefits of and reason why protective clothing should be worn. It is also now turning its attention to drivers in an attempt to increase other road user’s awareness of the vulnerability of bikers on the road and to emphasise the need to THINK BIKE! and LEAVE ROOM. Communications Manager at the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety Linda Sanderson is delighted by the achievement and said;- “ A large number of people representing Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, the Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership, IAM, BMF, MAG, KillSpills and the M partnership amongst others, have committed a lot of time, resources and ideas to the RideSafe BackSafe initiative since its launch 18 months ago. We are working together for bikers and the community at large and our focus is to reduce casualties on our roads. Statistics tell us that the initiative is working so far and this Commendation will energise our activities as we look to continue the trend through 2008 “.
