THINK! MOTORCYCLE ACADEMY PROVES A WINNER WITH BRITISH SUPERBIKE FANS
22 October 2007 - THINK! British Superbikes
As the curtain came down on another thrilling Bennetts British Superbike season at Brands Hatch, the THINK! Motorcycle Academy once again showed itself to be the focal point of the series for fans.
Thousands of fans queued up to meet leading local riders Leon Camier, Tommy Hill and Scott Smart, while three time British Superbike Champion and THINK! Ambassador, John Reynolds, was once again on hand to talk to and sign autographs for the massive crowds, who were basking in the autumn sunshine. The interactive Academy, which has been present at all twelve of the UK mainland BSB rounds, is designed to promote the government’s road safety message advising riders to ‘Give your bike the skills it deserves’ and to ‘Save racing for the track’. As well as attracting BSB stars to the stand to talk about their riding experiences, the Academy features an interactive riding simulator and web stations, while local Bike Safe officers are on hand to give tutorials on how to get the most out of bikes in a safe and responsible manner and help interested fans sign up for advanced courses. The many thousands of spectators that have visited the THINK! Motorcycle Academy throughout the year also had the chance to listen to interviews and participate in Q&A sessions with experts from THINK! Partners; Alpinestars, Arai, Knox, Metzeler and Shoei; ensuring that fans were left in no doubt about how to suitably protect themselves when out riding. With a full programme of activities scheduled for each of the rounds, there have been many highlights throughout the season, including the enormous crowds which gathered at Cadwell Park over the August Bank Holiday to meet double World Superbike Champion, James Toseland, who took time out of his hectic schedule to promote the Academy’s vital message. Other star names who visited the Academy over the course of the year were former World Superbike Champion Troy Corser, Ron Haslam (GP legend and father of BSB star Leon), 2007 BSB runner-up Jonathan Rea and three-time former BSB Champion and race commentator Niall Mackenzie. Harley Stephens, THINK! Motorcycle Academy Manager said, “It has been a fantastic year for the Academy having managed to communicate the road safety message to thousands of race fans throughout the UK. We set out to make sure that the Academy was not only informative for the fans but also provided exciting features to engage the crowds. Having the support of Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha, who all gave us their flagship superbikes plus access to the top riders, has made that task much easier. “John Reynolds has been a fantastic ambassador for us. I would like to thank him and all of the riders who have given up their time to meet the fans and promote the important THINK! messages. We’ve also had fantastic support from BikeSafe and Road Safety officers up and down the country, giving up their time and advising fans on training, riding and the law.” Tony Partis from series promoter DORNA added, “The THINK! Academy has provided a wonderful focal point for fans at all of the rounds. It has promoted a very important message in an innovative and entertaining way and it is now firmly established as one of the main attractions at each round”. Although the British Superbike season has now finished, the work of the THINK! Motorcycle Academy goes on with the next stop being a major presence at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at Birmingham’s NEC (23rd November-2nd December).
