THE LONG AND MUDDY ROAD TO GLORY
23 August 2007 - Duke Marketing Ltd
MX 1987 released on DVD
Mud-splattered, rain-soaked and out for glory – this is the story of a dramatic season of spectacular motocross, packed with action, incident and controversy. Re-live the thrills, spills and tension of the amazing 1987 Motocross 500cc World Championship in three hours of action-packed highlights from Duke. Britain’s David Thorpe was aiming to score a hat trick of 500cc titles as the best motocross riders on Earth gathered in Spain for the first of 12 adrenalin-powered rounds. Thorpe enjoyed a fantastic start to his title defence, but failure to win during the Scandinavian rounds dented his championship ambitions and allowed Belgium star Georges Jobe to emerge as a genuine contender. The two-times 250cc World Champion made his intentions clear by claiming both wins at the German Grand Prix, and grabbing a 10-point lead in the title table. Brit Thorpe’s season suffered yet another setback at the halfway point when he broke his arm in a heavy fall. He was forced to miss a round and then struggled to find the form he had enjoyed at the start of the season It looked like Jobe may be unchallenged on his way to a first 500cc World Championship until a new British star emerged – Kurt Nicoll. Nicoll won the opening race of the British Grand Prix in front of 35,000 fans and maintained his amazing form to take the fight to Jobe. With just two rounds left, Nicoll had a slim shot at the title, but his hopes were dashed by a race-ending crash in Luxembourg – allowing Jobe to take the championship with one round to spare. Awesome race footage shows stars including Jobe, Thorpe, Nicoll, Lungqvist and Martens take on the most demanding courses in the world, in some of the most demanding conditions. Interviews with the leading riders – including an emotional contribution from the newly-crowned world champion just 15 minutes after claiming the title – put you at the heart of the drama. MX 87 is released 13th August, priced at £16.99 on DVD, from leading video outlets or direct from Duke Video: Tel 01624 640000, fax 01624 640001 or email mail@dukevideo.com.
